Forest management and the understory

Working with crews at Blodgett Forest Research Station, I surveyed understory species in plots impacted by different management treatments, including fire, thinning and mastication. I combined this study with a chronosequence of clear-cut plots over 30 years. I was interested both in how understory diversity changed over time as well as whether invasive species declined with increasing canopy cover.
